Protests erupt outside Kasba Police station as 3 arrested in alleged Kolkata college gang rape
A 21-year-old man, identified as Ramachandra, died in a suicide explosion outside the house of a minor girl he had been in a relationship with in Kalenahalli village, Mandya district, Karnataka. The incident occurred early on Sunday when Ramachandra detonated a gelatin stick, resulting in fatal injuries. The blast took place after the girl’s family rejected his marriage proposal. According to the police, Ramachandra had been in love with the girl, who lived in a neighboring village, and had maintained contact with her despite her family’s opposition.
Ramachandra had previously been arrested under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act after eloping with the minor girl last year. Following his arrest, he was detained for three months as an under-trial before a compromise was reached with the girl's family. The case was later dismissed in court, but Ramachandra continued to stay in touch with the girl, a situation that caused friction with her family.
The girl’s family had intended to marry her off to another man once she reached the legal age. This decision reportedly led to Ramachandra’s emotional distress. Police confirmed that Ramachandra was from a family involved in quarrying, and it is believed he accessed the gelatin stick from their business.
After the explosion, Ramachandra succumbed to the injuries on the spot. A case has been registered based on a complaint from his family, who described the death as suspicious. Authorities are investigating the incident, focusing on how Ramachandra obtained the explosive material and the circumstances leading to the tragic event. Further details are being gathered as the police continue their probe.
